Materials Needed: Composition Book, Pencil or colored pens, and highlighter
At the top of your composition Notebook label the first line with “SOL 8.2a The Real Number System Graphic Organizer“.
The next line write the Standard of Learning as bolded below.
SOL 8.2a – Describe and illustrate the relationships among subsets.

Vocabulary Notes – Write these in your Composition Book
Real Numbers – All the numbers that can be found on a number line. Real numbers can be large or small, positive or negative, decimals, fractions, etc.
Examples:
Rational Numbers – Any number that can be written by dividing one integer by another. Any number that can be written as a fraction or ratio.
Examples:
Integers – All whole numbers and their negative counterparts.
Examples:
Whole Numbers – A number with no fractional or decimal part. Cannot be a negative. Includes zero.
Examples:
Natural Numbers – Whole numbers from 1 and up. “Counting numbers” All positive whole numbers.
Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4 . . .
Irrational Numbers – A number that cannot be written as a simple fraction. Decimals that do not terminate and non-perfect square roots.
